DiscGO
Placement: Staffordshire Games Institute 1UP Summer Placement
Project Overview: During a competitive 6-week industry-simulated placement, I served as a Gameplay Programmer and Designer for DiscGO, a high-velocity arena game. I focused on creating a high-fidelity “feel” for the core mechanics and building scalable systems for environmental hazards.
Technical Highlights
Input Architecture: Engineered a comprehensive controller input system, ensuring frame-perfect responsiveness and precise behavioral mapping to meet commercial standards for competitive gameplay.
Deterministic Physics Debugging: Diagnosed and resolved complex physics-based anomalies within the sports game, stablising projectile trajectories and collision logic to ensure a consistent player experience.
UI Systems Refactoring and Navigation: Led a complete overhaul of the legacy UI navigation framework. Replaced prototype-level code with a scalable, controller-first architecture designed for seamless menu traversal and reliability.
Production-Ready Settings and UI Functionality: Architected and implemented the full suite of UI graphics and settings menus from the ground up, transforming non-functional prototype placeholders into a fully operational, ship-ready system.
